The parish extends throughout a territory of 1538.31 miē (3984.2 kmē ), of which, 1173.78 square miles (3040.08 kmē) of it is land and 364.53 square miles (944.13 kmē) of it is water, it is the fifth largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.
