The county comprises an area of 2208.2 miē (5719.21 kmē), of which, 1845.3 square miles (4779.31 kmē) of it is land and 362.9 square miles (939.91 kmē) of it is water, it is the 24th largest by area in the U.S. state of California. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in California.
