Vanderburgh County is a county located in the United States of Indiana. Vanderburgh County had an official population of 171922 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 174729, making it the seventh most populous county in Indiana. It covers total area of 235.74 miē (610.56 kmē), of which, 234.57 square miles (607.53 kmē) of it is land and 1.16 square miles (3 kmē) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The population density was 732.9 people per square mile (282.97/kmē), making its Indiana's third most densely populated county. There were 76300 housing units at an average density of 325.3 per square mile (125.6/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.93. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.1% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 110.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 115.8 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 174729, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 154951 White, 14930 Black or African American, 417 American Indian, 1843 Asian, 92 Native Hawaiian, and 2496 from two or more races.
