According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2137 inhabitants. giving it the 256th largest population among North Carolina. Its area is just over 2.41 square miles (6.24 kmē), of which, 2.36 square miles (6.11 kmē) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 336th largest by total area in North Carolina.
