Valley County is a county in the United States of Nebraska. In 2000, the population was 4647. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 4182, making it the 60th most populous county in Nebraska. The county encompasses an area of 570.51 sq mi (1477.61 kmē ), of which, 568.11 square miles (1471.4 kmē) of it is land and 2.41 square miles (6.24 kmē) of it is water, it is the 28th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.


As of the census of 2000, there were 4647 people in the county, organized into 1965 households, and 1299 families residing in the county. The population density was 8.2 people per square mile (3.17/kmē), it is 53rd most densely populated county in Nebraska. There were 2273 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1.54/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.93. In the county Age distribution was 24.7% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 24% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4182, The racial makeup of the county was 4129 White, 8 Black or African American, 18 American Indian, 6 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 18 from two or more races.
