Valley City is a city located in the Chambers County, Alabama, United States. The population of the city was 9198 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 9962, making it Alabama's 62nd largest. The city extends throughout a territory of 9.74 mi˛ (25.23 sq km ), it is the 138th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9198 people in the city, organized into 3832 households, and 2607 families living in the city. The population density was 944.2 people per square mile (364.56/km˛), making it the 60th most densely populated city in Alabama. There were 4194 housing units at an average density of 430.6 per square mile (166.26/km˛). The average household size was 2.39 people, and the average family size was 2.95 people. In the city the population was spread out, with 24% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.5 males. The median age was 37.9 years, the median age of male residents at 35.4 and the median age of female residents at 40.1. The racial makeup of the city was 6454 White, 2647 Black or African American, 12 American Indian, 32 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 43 from two or more races and 10 Ohter races.
