Valdez City is one of the city of Valdez-Cordova Census Area, Alaska, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 4036 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 3787 in July 2008, It is Alaska's 22nd largest by population . The city has a total area of 277.06 miē (717.58 kmē), of which, 221.97 square miles (574.9 kmē) of it is land and 55.09 square miles (142.68 kmē) of it is water, it is the 20th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 12 in the size of its inland waterways in Alaska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4036 residents, 1494 households, and 1043 families in the city. The population density was 18.2 people per square mile (7.03/kmē), it would be the 162nd most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Alaska. There were 1645 housing units at an average density of 7.4 per square mile (2.86/kmē). The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.15. In the city the population was spread out, with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 3.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 107.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107 males. The median age is 35.4 years, The median age of males and females living in Valdez City was 35.7 and 35.1 years respectively. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 3375 White, 17 Black or African American, 290 American Indian, 88 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, 191 from two or more races and 57 Ohter races.
