Valdez-cordova Census Area is one of the 27 census area of Alaska, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. In 2000, census area's population was 10195 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9362, giving it the ninth largest population among Alaska's census area. The census area encompasses an area of 40199.15 square miles (104115.32 sq km ), of which, 34319.1 square miles (88886.06 sq km) of it is land and 5880.05 square miles (15229.26 sq km) of it is water, making it Alaska's fifth largest county by total area. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Alaska.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 10195 residents, 3884 households, and 2559 families in the census area. The population density was 0.3 people per square mile (0.12/kmē), making it the eighth least densely populated census area in Alaska. There were 5148 housing units at an average density of 0.2 per square mile (0.08/kmē). The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.18. In the census area Age distribution was 29.6% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 113.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9362, The racial makeup of the census area was 6978 White, 40 Black or African American, 1334 American Indian, 447 Asian, 30 Native Hawaiian, and 533 from two or more races.
