Valdese Town is one of the town of Burke County, North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 4485. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the town is 4557, It is the 137th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.46 square miles (14.14 kmē), of which, 5.44 square miles (14.09 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 160th largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 4485 people, 1886 households, and 1181 families residing in the town. The population density was 823.8 people per square mile (318.07/kmē), making it the 269th most densely populated town in North Carolina. There were 1992 housing units at an average density of 366.2 per square mile (141.39/kmē). The average household size was 2.29 people, and the average family size was 2.9 people. In the town the population was spread out, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.6 males. The median age is 39.6 years, the median age of male residents at 36.4 and the median age of female residents at 42.8. The racial or ethnic makeup of the town was 91.53% White, 1.05% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 3.99% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, 0.89% from two or more races and 2.25% Other races.
