Union County is a county located in the United States of Ohio. The population of the county was 40909 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 48223, It is 50th most populous county in Ohio. It covers total area of 436.98 sq mi (1131.77 sq km), of which, 436.65 square miles (1130.92 sq km) of it is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 sq km) of it is water, making it the 49th largest by size in Ohio.

The population's age distribution was 27.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 34% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.8 males.
