Union County is a county in the United States of Indiana. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 7349 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 7157, It is the second smallest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 165.25 miē (428 kmē), of which, 161.55 square miles (418.41 kmē) of it is land and 3.7 square miles (9.58 kmē) of it is water, it is the third smallest in terms of geographical size.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 7349 residents, 2793 households, and 2072 families in the county. The population density was 45.5 people per square mile (17.57/kmē), making it the 12th least densely populated county in Indiana. There were 3077 housing units at an average density of 19 per square mile (7.34/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 people, and the average family size was 3.05 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 27.3% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 7157, The racial makeup of the county was 97.96% White, 0.89% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.2% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.63% from two or more races.
