Union City is one of the city of Union County, South Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 8793 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 8039 in July 2008, It is the 52nd most populous in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The city comprises an area of 7.96 square miles (20.62 kmē), it is the 58th largest by area in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8793 people, 3791 households, and 2399 families living in the city. The population density was 1105 people per square mile (426.64/kmē), making it the 93rd most densely populated city in South Carolina. There were 4240 housing units at an average density of 532.7 per square mile (205.68/kmē). The average household size was 2.28 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 22.9% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 20% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 79.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.3 males. The median age was 40.4 years, the median age of male residents at 37.7 and the median age of female residents at 42.5. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 4966 White, 3704 Black or African American, 21 American Indian, 33 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 64 from two or more races and 4 Ohter races.
