Tyrrell County, North Carolina is a county of the United States of North Carolina. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 4149 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 4087, It is least populous county in North Carolina. The county comprises an area of 600.3 sq mi (1554.77 kmē), of which, 389.91 square miles (1009.86 kmē) of it is land and 210.39 square miles (544.91 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 28th largest by total area among North Carolina's county. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4149 people, 1537 households, and 1056 families living in the county. The population density was 10.6 people per square mile (4.09/kmē), it is the second least densely populated county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. There were 2032 housing units at an average density of 5.2 per square mile (2.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 people, and the average family size was 2.95 people. In the county Population was distributed with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 114.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.2 males. Its population was estimated at 4087 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 55.96% White, 41.64% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 1.39% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.78% from two or more races.
