Tyler County is a county located in Texas, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 20871 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20470, It is the 114th largest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 935.71 square miles (2423.48 square kilometre ), of which, 922.9 square miles (2390.3 square kilometre) of it is land and 12.81 square miles (33.18 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 107th largest by total area in Texas.

In the county the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 106.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.2 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 20470, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 86.25% White, 11.83% Black or African American, 0.52% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
