According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Tuscola County is home to 58266 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 56187, It is 34th most populous county in Michigan. It is spread over 913.82 square miles (2366.78 square kilometre), of which, 812.43 square miles (2104.18 square kilometre ) of it is land and 101.39 square miles (262.6 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 31st largest by total area in Michigan.

In the county Age distribution was 26.8% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 56187, The racial makeup of the county was 96.42% White, 1.4% Black or African American, 0.64% American Indian, 0.36% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.16% from two or more races.
