Turner County is a county located in South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 8849 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 8366, making it the 21st most populous county in South Dakota. The county has a total area of 617.45 mi˛ (1599.19 square kilometre), of which, 616.82 square miles (1597.56 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.63 square miles (1.63 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 17th smallest in terms of geographical size.

For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 8366, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 8220 White, 18 Black or African American, 60 American Indian, 24 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 44 from two or more races.
