According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Tumwater City is home to 12698 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 14100, giving it the 82nd largest population among Washington. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.08 miē (26.11 kmē), of which, 9.95 square miles (25.77 kmē) of it is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 kmē) of it is water, it is the 85th largest by area in the U.S. state of Washington.
