Troy Town is one of the town of Montgomery County, North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the town was 3430 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3415, It is the 174th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is spread over 2.98 miē (7.72 kmē), of which, 2.97 square miles (7.69 kmē ) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, it is the 286th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3430 people, 1108 households, and 710 families residing in the town. The population density was 1156.8 people per square mile (446.64/kmē), it is 150th most densely populated town in North Carolina. There were 1209 housing units at an average density of 407.1 per square mile (157.18/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the town the population was distributed as follows: 21.6% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 35% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 132.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 140.4 males.
