Towner County, North Dakota


Towner County is a county in the United States of North Dakota. As of 2000 the population was 2876. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2202, making it North Dakota's tenth smallest county. It has total area of 1041.56 sq mi (2697.63 kmē), of which, 1024.55 square miles (2653.57 kmē) of it is land and 17 square miles (44.03 kmē) of it is water, it is the 17th smallest by area in the U.S. state of North Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2876 people in the county, organized into 1218 households, and 786 families living in the county. The population density was 2.8 people per square mile (1.08/kmē), giving it the 15th least densely populated county among the North Dakota. There were 1558 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.58/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.31 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24.6% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 2202, The racial makeup of the county was 95.87% White, 0.09% Black or African American, 3.09% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.77% from two or more races.
