Totowa Borough is a borough located in Passaic County, New Jersey, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 9892 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 10621 in July 2008, It is New Jersey's 169th largest by population . The borough comprises an area of 4.05 sq mi (10.49 square kilometre), of which, 4 square miles (10.36 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 139th largest by total area among New Jersey.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 9892 people, 457 households, and 284 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2474.8 people per square mile (955.53/kmē), making it the 294th most densely populated borough in New Jersey. There were 3630 housing units at an average density of 907.5 per square mile (350.39/kmē). The average household size was 2.63 people, and the average family size was 3.09 people. In the borough the population is diverse age-wise, with 18.3% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males. The median age is 42.7 years, the median age of male residents at 40.4 and the median age of female residents at 44.7. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 93.4% White, 1.12% Black or African American, 0.02% American Indian, 2.26% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.22% from two or more races and 1.97% Other races.
