Tonawanda City is a city in the Erie County, New York, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 16136 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 14819, making it the 113th most populous in New York. The city comprises an area of 4.09 sq mi (10.59 sq km), of which, 3.79 square miles (9.82 sq km) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 sq km) of it is water, making it New York's 267th largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 16136 people, 6741 households, and 4364 families residing in the city. The population density was 4252.9 people per square mile (1642.05/kmē), making its New York's 157th most densely populated city. There were 7119 housing units at an average density of 1878.4 per square mile (725.25/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons.
