Tompkinsville City is a city located in the Monroe County, Kentucky, United States. In 2000, the population was 2660. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2609, It is Kentucky's 134th largest by population . It is spread over 3.84 square miles (9.95 square kilometre), of which, 3.66 square miles (9.48 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.18 square miles (0.47 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 111th largest by total area among Kentucky.

The population density was 727.4 people per square mile (280.85/kmē), it is the 146th least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Kentucky. In the city the population was spread out, with 21.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.4% who were 65 or older.
