Todd County is one of the 66 county of South Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Todd County had an official population of 9050 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10167, It is South Dakota's 17th most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 1390.9 square miles (3602.41 square kilometre ), of which, 1388.12 square miles (3595.21 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.78 square miles (7.2 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 20th largest by total area in South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9050 people, 2462 households, and 1917 families living in the county. The population density was 6.5 people per square mile (2.51/kmē), giving it the 31st most densely populated county among the South Dakota. There were 2766 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile (0.77/kmē). The average household size was 3.62 people, and the average family size was 4.09 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 44% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 14.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10167, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 1533 White, 80 Black or African American, 8303 American Indian, 39 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 212 from two or more races.
