Tipton County is one of the 95 county of Tennessee, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 51271. In July 2008, its estimated population was 58706, It is Tennessee's 23rd most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 474.72 mi˛ (1229.52 sq km), of which, 459.37 square miles (1189.76 sq km) of it is land and 15.35 square miles (39.76 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 47th largest by total area among Tennessee's county.

In the Tipton County, 29.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.6% were 18 to 24, 30.4% were 25 to 44, 21.8% were 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 58706, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 78.86% White, 19.03% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 0.49% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.19% from two or more races.
