Tipton County is a one of the county from Indiana's 92 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 16577 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 15923, It is the 13th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its area is just over 260.41 miē (674.46 kmē), of which, 260.39 square miles (674.41 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, it is the tenth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16577 people, 6469 households, and 4750 families residing in the county. The population density was 63.7 people per square mile (24.59/kmē), it is the 29th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 6848 housing units at an average density of 26.3 per square mile (10.15/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.97. In the county Age distribution was 25% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 15923, The racial makeup of the county was 15643 White, 60 Black or African American, 47 American Indian, 76 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 95 from two or more races.
