Tioga County is a county located in the United States of New York. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Tioga County is home to 51784 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 50171, making it the 15th least populous county in New York. The county extends throughout a territory of 522.91 mi˛ (1354.33 sq km ), of which, 518.69 square miles (1343.4 sq km) of it is land and 4.21 square miles (10.9 sq km) of it is water, making it the 19th smallest by size in New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 51784 residents, 19725 households, and 14326 families in the county. The population density was 99.8 people per square mile (38.53/km˛), it is New York's 38th most densely populated county. There were 21410 housing units at an average density of 41.3 per square mile (15.95/km˛). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.04. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 24% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 50171, The racial makeup of the county was 48662 White, 470 Black or African American, 132 American Indian, 401 Asian, 7 Native Hawaiian, and 499 from two or more races.
