Timber Lake City is a city located in Dewey County, South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 443 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 421, making it the 143rd most populous in South Dakota. The city spans an area of 0.41 mi˛ (1.06 sq km), giving it the 226th largest by total area among South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 443 people in the city, organized into 183 households, and 120 families residing in the city. The population density was 1086.8 people per square mile (419.62/km˛), making it the 87th most densely populated city in South Dakota. There were 207 housing units at an average density of 504.9 per square mile (194.94/km˛). The average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.2 females. The racial makeup of the city was 269 White, Black or African American, 161 American Indian, 5 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 8 from two or more races and Ohter races.
