Thornton City is a city in the Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, United States. The population of the city was 422 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 358 in July 2008, It is the 523rd largest by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is spread over 1.25 sq mi (3.24 square kilometre), makes it the 289th largest by total area in Iowa.
