According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 552.08 miē (1429.88 kmē), of which, 548.3 square miles (1420.09 kmē) of it is land and 3.78 square miles (9.79 kmē) of it is water, it is the 20th largest in terms of geographical size.
