According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Texas County is home to 20107 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 20283, making it the 40th most populous county in Oklahoma. It has total area of 2048.81 miē (5306.39 kmē), of which, 2037.16 square miles (5276.22 kmē) of it is land and 11.66 square miles (30.2 kmē) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among Oklahoma's county.

In July 2008, its estimated population was 20283, The racial makeup of the county was 19280 White, 266 Black or African American, 277 American Indian, 190 Asian, 33 Native Hawaiian, and 237 from two or more races.
