In July 2008, its estimated population was 108576, It is Louisiana's 13th most populous parish. The parish extends throughout a territory of 2079.9 mi˛ (5386.92 square kilometre ), of which, 1254.93 square miles (3250.25 square kilometre) of it is land and 824.97 square miles (2136.66 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the second largest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.
