Tensas Parish, Louisiana is a parish of the United States of Louisiana. The population of the parish was 6618 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the parish is 5694, giving it the smallest population among Louisiana's parish. The parish encompasses an area of 641.2 mi˛ (1660.7 sq km ), of which, 602.48 square miles (1560.42 sq km) of it is land and 38.72 square miles (100.28 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 41st largest by total area among Louisiana's parish.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 6618 residents, 2416 households, and 1635 families in the parish. The population density was 11 people per square mile (4.25/km˛), it is second least densely populated parish in Louisiana. There were 3359 housing units at an average density of 5.6 per square mile (2.16/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.14 persons. In the parish Age distribution was 26.5% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older.
