Tempe City is one of the city of Maricopa County, Arizona, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 158625. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 175523, making it the seventh most populous in Arizona. It has total area of 40.19 square miles (104.09 kmē), of which, 40.06 square miles (103.75 kmē) of it is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 kmē) of it is water, it is the 37th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 17 in the size of its inland waterways in Arizona.

As of the census of 2000, there were 158625 residents, 63602 households, and 33654 families in the city. The population density was 3959.4 people per square mile (1528.73/kmē), it would be the sixth most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Arizona.
