According to the 2000 census it had a population of 12704 inhabitants. making it the 12th most populous in West Virginia. It has total area of 7.42 mi˛ (19.22 sq km), of which, 7.34 square miles (19.01 sq km) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 27th largest by total area in West Virginia.
