Tazewell County is a county in the United States of Virginia. The population of the county was 44598 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 43787, making it the 39th most populous county in Virginia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 519.89 miē (1346.51 kmē), of which, 519.74 square miles (1346.12 kmē) of it is land and 0.15 square miles (0.39 kmē) of it is water, making it Virginia's 22nd largest county by total area.

The population density was 85.8 people per square mile (33.13/kmē), making it the 70th most densely populated county in Virginia. There were 20390 housing units at an average density of 39.2 per square mile (15.14/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.85 persons. In the county Age distribution was 21.4% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 112.7 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 43787, The racial makeup of the county was 41835 White, 1217 Black or African American, 83 American Indian, 358 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 294 from two or more races.
