Taylor County is a county located in the United States of Iowa. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6958 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6298, It is the fifth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. The county extends throughout a territory of 534.83 miē (1385.2 kmē ), of which, 533.95 square miles (1382.92 kmē) of it is land and 0.87 square miles (2.25 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 65th largest by total area in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6958 residents, 2824 households, and 1913 families in the county. The population density was 13 people per square mile (5.02/kmē), making its Iowa's fourth least densely populated county. There were 3199 housing units at an average density of 6 per square mile (2.32/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6298, The racial makeup of the county was 99% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.35% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 0.43% from two or more races.
