Tate County is a county located in Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 25370. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 27176, making it the 37th most populous county in Mississippi. The county comprises an area of 410.95 mi˛ (1064.36 sq km), of which, 404.48 square miles (1047.6 sq km) of it is land and 6.47 square miles (16.76 sq km) of it is water, makes it the eighth smallest by total area in Mississippi.

The population density was 62.7 people per square mile (24.21/km˛), it is the 21st most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. There were 9354 housing units at an average density of 23.1 per square mile (8.92/km˛). The average household size was 2.74 people, and the average family size was 3.18 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 27.1% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 27176, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 67.56% White, 31.42% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.11% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 0.67% from two or more races.
