Talbot County is a United States county located in the United States of Maryland. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 33812 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 36215, It is the sixth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Maryland. The county encompasses an area of 476.77 sq mi (1234.83 square kilometre ), of which, 269.14 square miles (697.07 square kilometre) of it is land and 207.64 square miles (537.79 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 14th largest by size in Maryland. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 33812 people in the county, organized into 14307 households, and 9630 families living in the county. The population density was 125.6 people per square mile (48.49/kmē), it would be the 17th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Maryland. There were 16500 housing units at an average density of 61.3 per square mile (23.67/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the Talbot County, 21.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.6% were 18 to 24, 25.2% were 25 to 44, 27.2% were 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 36215, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 84.09% White, 13.79% Black or African American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.84% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 0.91% from two or more races.
