Sylvania City is a city located in Lucas County, Ohio, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 18670 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 19185, making it the 94th most populous in Ohio. The city encompasses an area of 5.84 sq mi (15.13 sq km ), of which, 5.79 square miles (15 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 175th largest by total area in Ohio.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18670 people, 7151 households, and 5071 families residing in the city. The population density was 3223.2 people per square mile (1244.48/kmē), it is Ohio's 78th most densely populated city. There were 7392 housing units at an average density of 1276.7 per square mile (492.94/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.16. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males. The median age was 38.5 years, The median age of males and females living in Sylvania City was 37.1 and 39.7 years respectively. The racial makeup of the city was 17774 White, 186 Black or African American, 18 American Indian, 392 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 179 from two or more races and 120 Ohter races.
