Sweetwater County is a United States county located in the United States of Wyoming. The population of county in 2000 stood at 37613 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 39944, It is the fourth largest county by population in the U.S. state of Wyoming. Its area is just over 10491.17 mi˛ (27172.01 square kilometre), of which, 10425.3 square miles (27001.4 square kilometre) of it is land and 65.87 square miles (170.6 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Wyoming.

As of the census of 2000, there were 37613 people in the county, organized into 14105 households, and 10096 families living in the county. The population density was 3.6 people per square mile (1.39/km˛), it is the 14th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Wyoming. There were 15921 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.58/km˛). The average household size was 2.62 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. The population's age distribution was 28.9% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.1 males. Its population was estimated at 39944 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 94.8% White, 1.3% Black or African American, 1.28% American Indian, 0.79% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.78% from two or more races.
