Sweet Home City is a city located in Linn County, Oregon, in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. The city has a population of 8016 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8930, It is the 59th most populous in the U.S. state of Oregon. Its area is just over 5.76 mi˛ (14.92 sq km), of which, 5.33 square miles (13.8 sq km) of it is land and 0.44 square miles (1.14 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 47th largest by total area in Oregon. It is ranks 20 in the size of its inland waterways in Oregon.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8016 residents, 16 households, and 12 families in the city. The population density was 1504.4 people per square mile (580.85/km˛), it is the 143rd most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Oregon. There were 3347 housing units at an average density of 628 per square mile (242.47/km˛). The average household size was 2.59 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. The population's age distribution was 27.9% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.7 males. The median age was 37.3 years, The median age of males was 35.8 years, for females the median age was 38.5 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 7506 White, 20 Black or African American, 133 American Indian, 49 Asian, 12 Native Hawaiian, 216 from two or more races and 80 Ohter races.
