Swarthmore Borough is a United States borough located in the Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 6170 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 6090, It is the 225th most populous in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The borough extends throughout a territory of 1.38 square miles (3.57 sq km ), makes it the 573rd largest by total area in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6170 people in the borough, organized into 1993 households, and 1348 families living in the borough. The population density was 4460.4 people per square mile (1722.17/kmē), it is Pennsylvania's 188th most densely populated borough. There were 2064 housing units at an average density of 1495.7 per square mile (577.49/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. In the borough Age distribution was 20.5% under the age of 18, 24.4% from 18 to 24, 18.9% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.9 males. The median age is 33.4 years, the median age of male residents at 30.7 and the median age of female residents at 35.9. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 5298 White, 291 Black or African American, 15 American Indian, 339 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, 158 from two or more races and 66 Ohter races.
