Sussex County is one of the 21 county of New Jersey, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Sussex County is home to 144166 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 150909, It is the fifth smallest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 535.99 sq mi (1388.21 sq km ), of which, 521.26 square miles (1350.06 sq km) of it is land and 14.73 square miles (38.15 sq km) of it is water, it is the seventh largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in New Jersey.

The population density was 276.6 people per square mile (106.8/kmē), it is the second least populated county in terms of population density. There were 56528 housing units at an average density of 108.4 per square mile (41.85/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.8 persons, and the average family size was 3.24 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 150909, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 143141 White, 3091 Black or African American, 193 American Indian, 2920 Asian, 35 Native Hawaiian, and 1529 from two or more races.
