Surry County is a county located in North Carolina, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 71219. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 72468, It is North Carolina's 36th most populous county. The county has a total area of 537.79 miē (1392.87 kmē), of which, 536.52 square miles (1389.58 kmē) of it is land and 1.27 square miles (3.29 kmē) of it is water, it is the 40th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
