Surprise City is one of the city of Maricopa County, Arizona, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 30848 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 92897, making it the 21st most populous in Arizona. The city comprises an area of 69.51 sq mi (180.03 kmē), of which, 69.49 square miles (179.98 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, making it Arizona's 16th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 30848 people in the city, organized into 12484 households, and 9723 families living in the city. The population density was 443.9 people per square mile (171.39/kmē), it is 88th most densely populated city in Arizona. There were 16260 housing units at an average density of 234 per square mile (90.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.75 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 19.9% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 25.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males. The median age of the city's population was 46.1 years, The median age of males was 42.9 years, for females the median age was 48.7 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 85.97% White, 2.61% Black or African American, 0.43% American Indian, 1.07% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 1.99% from two or more races and 7.87% Other races.
