As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 30697, It is the 28th most populous county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county spans an area of 707.22 mi˛ (1831.69 sq km), of which, 693.79 square miles (1796.91 sq km) of it is land and 13.43 square miles (34.78 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 20th largest by total area among Mississippi's county.
