In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 29.1% under the age of 18, 12.2% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.2 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 13266, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 26.91% White, 72.22% Black or African American, 0.11% American Indian, 0.12% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.62% from two or more races.
