As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 155474, It is seventh most populous county in Tennessee. It covers total area of 543.12 mi˛ (1406.67 sq km), of which, 529.3 square miles (1370.88 sq km) of it is land and 13.81 square miles (35.77 sq km) of it is water, it is the 30th largest in terms of geographical size.
