Sumner County, Kansas is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 25946. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 23616, giving it the 24th largest population among Kansas's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1184.78 square miles (3068.57 kmē), of which, 1181.81 square miles (3060.87 kmē) of it is land and 2.98 square miles (7.72 kmē) of it is water, making it Kansas's fourth largest county by total area.

The population density was 22 people per square mile (8.49/kmē), making it the 34th most densely populated county in Kansas. The population's age distribution was 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.
