Summit County is a county in the United States of Ohio. It is home to over 542899 people (2000 census). Its population was estimated at 542562 in July 2008, It is fourth most populous county in Ohio. The county extends throughout a territory of 420.06 mi˛ (1087.95 square kilometre ), of which, 412.72 square miles (1068.94 square kilometre) of it is land and 7.34 square miles (19.01 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 28th smallest by size in Ohio.

As of the census of 2000, there were 542899 residents, 217788 households, and 144601 families in the county. The population density was 1315.4 people per square mile (507.88/km˛), it is Ohio's fifth most densely populated county. There were 230880 housing units at an average density of 559.4 per square mile (215.99/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 112 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 542562, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 82.39% White, 14% Black or African American, 0.23% American Indian, 1.92% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.44% from two or more races.
